Next in my inconsistent series of SEO posts- the importance of off-page SEO. If you're not too familiar with SEO, check out this post to get caught up!
Anyways, did you know this was a thing? Let's break it down so you can improve your website's overall search ranking.
Off-site SEO refers to the authority your website has in the vast landscape of the worldwide web. How present are you outside your website? In more technical terms, do you have a solid network of backlinks, a social media presence, and other sources leading to your website? One great example would be podcasts, which are popular now more than ever. These things go into building stronger domain authority.
You may be asking, "How can I start optimizing my website today?"
Let me tell you.
Start building a network of backlinks
For those of you who do not know what a backlink is, it's a link to your website from an article on another site. For example, if you find an article with a keyword you want to be associated with, you can ask the publisher to embed a link to your site within the key term. Everyone uses backlinks, I use them in almost every post and I'm sure you've clicked on them.
You can start by searching for other websites in your niche and contacting them directly through Email and asking them to include a link to your site within one of the phrases in their article. As an example, I'll embed a link to one of our client's websites, 27th Street Bakery. Best bakery in LA, so if you're ever out there check 'em out!
But it doesn't have to be your specific name or anything. It could just be a phrase like if you're an event venue, you could ask a site publisher to embed your link in that phrase like I just did.
Backlinks are arguably the best way to build domain authority, thus increasing your overall rankings on search engines. If you're not sure what that is either, it's essentially a rating of how much authority your website has throughout the web on a scale rating of 1-100. The score is based on various data such as the quantity & quality of backlinks to your site and organic search traffic.
Market your business through multiple channels
Believe it or not, social media is a great channel to be present on because almost anyone that uses the internet logs onto social media. It won't affect your search ranking, but it does act as a search engine of its own if potential customers have a question for you. Some businesses use it as a customer service platform. Social media is just one of the channels you need to be present on to build a consistent online presence.
Another platform some people don't even know about- GoogleMyBusiness. Do you have a profile for your business? This is actually a platform you can post on that people can see if they come across your business on a google search.
How do I tell if my efforts are paying off?
Anyone who's ever tried to rank a website on Google knows that it's not an easy task. It can take months to see any real progress. But why is this? Well, there are a number of factors that affect how quickly you can climb the rankings.
The most important factor is the competitiveness of the search term. If you're trying to rank for something that hundreds of other brands are going for, it's going to take longer than if you're targeting a less competitive keyword. Another important factor is the search rate. This is the number of people who are searching for the keyword every month. Like competitiveness, the more people who are searching, the more difficult it will be to rank.
Location also plays a role. If you're targeting a local market, it will be easier to rank than if you're trying to rank at a larger scale. So, if you're patient and willing to put in the work, it is possible to see some real progress in your SEO efforts over time. Just don't expect it to happen right off the bat.
Should you outsource or DIY?
It's recommended you outsource your SEO, and let me tell you why. There are a lot of important factors to consider when it comes to optimizing your website for search engines. Not only do you have to worry about on-site optimization, but there's a lot of work that goes into ensuring your site builds authority throughout the world wide web.
For many businesses, the best course of action is to outsource their seo needs to an experienced seo agency or consultant. An SEO expert will have the knowledge and skills necessary to improve your website's visibility and organic traffic. Bonus points if they are local and can give you the care and attention you need (like us!) In addition, they can save you a lot of time and effort by taking care of everything for you. If you're serious about getting your website seen by more people, then outsourcing seo is the way to go.
Off-page SEO is just as important, if not more so than on-page SEO. It’s all about building a network of high-quality backlinks. And remember, don’t put all your eggs in one basket; market your business through multiple channels to reach the most people. Consider outsourcing your efforts to a pro SEO company – we know what it takes to rank your website and drive traffic that converts into sales. Have you tried any of these methods for increasing traffic and conversions?
