3 More Digital Marketing Trends for 2022

Updated: May 24

Digital marketing is a rapidly-evolving field, and it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends. But if you want your business to stay ahead of the competition, staying on top of the latest digital marketing trends is important. So, without further ado, three more digital marketing trends in 2022!

This list is social media-heavy, so if you're not on social media here's your sign to get going!

TikTok Takeover

TikTok has taken the entire world by storm, and it has become surprisingly easy to get organic traffic. This is a fantastic way to market a small business because of the number of impressions you'll ultimately get and all you really need to do to gain traffic is follow the trends and post on a consistent basis. Once you've established yourself with a solid following, you can start running ads, which are also very budget-friendly, and gain tons of exposure in ways you never thought possible. It's become one of the best channels of marketing this year.

Social media shopping

Noticing a trend within this post? The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has explicitly stated that the app will be pushing to support creators, commerce within the app, and video content.

So if you're a small business that wants to get more exposure this is an easy way to do so. Instagram has made it easier for users to make purchases on the platform without having to leave the app. This is a great advantage if you don't have a website or your website isn't in the best shape for people to lay their eyes on.

Since we're already talking about social media, much like TikTok, short videos with trending sounds have taken over as a dominant way to grow your page organically.

Web accessibility and optimization

This is a much more obvious practice for web designers, but you've probably noticed that websites traditionally have a company logo on the top left-hand side of the screen, read left to right, and are usually designed to be easily navigated on mobile.

That being said, a website that gives visitors a positive experience and performs well under any platform will catch Google's eye and reward it with more visibility.

Along with that, since small businesses can't compete with the big guys in search engines, you might as well dominate local search by optimizing for "near me" and "{product or service} in {city name}". It's one way to gain the upper hand. If that's not convincing enough, here's a quick stat for you:

3.6 billion Google searches are performed every single day, and 46% of those have local intent.

I'll just let you figure that number out...

Bonus Trend

I included this in my previous marketing trends post, and I'm bringing it up again because of how big it's become this year- influencer marketing!! I'll reiterate: half the world's population is on social media, especially TikTok. It was a growing field when I wrote about it a few months ago and it's still growing! An influencer agency called The Motherhood saw influencer rates rise by 44% from 2020 to 2021 and 45% from 2021 to 2022 thus far, on average. In the case that you have the budget to hire a local influencer, I recommend you look into it because it could gain you so much more exposure than other traditional forms of digital marketing.

Networking plays a huge role in this if you're a small business owner who doesn't have the budget to hire someone to advertise for you. Creating and building relationships with reputable business professionals in your community is one of the best forms of marketing. Not only are you marketing your business, but yourself. Your network is your net worth, as they say!

The bottom line: content is king.

Social media has proven that pushing out (quality) content is a great way to gain a steady following.
